We’ve all heard about the “Aporkcalpse,” a shortage of bacon. Now, we’ve got an even more disturbing shortage according to Huffington Post News … PUMPKIN SPICE LATTES!!! The coveted fall drink, made popular by Starbucks, is even more difficult to find due to high demand. Don’t be surprised if your barista says, “We’re out!” So how do you satisfy for Pumpkin Spice Latte craving? Make it yourself! The secret is in the syrup and Southern Simmerings is here to save the day!
- 2 cups water
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 tsp crystallized ginger
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground cloves
- 1 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 can (15oz) Pumpkin Puree
In a heavy saucepan, combine water and sugar. Heat on medium settings and stir consistently. While stirring, add ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Once the spices have combined with the syrup, gradually add pumpkin puree and continue stirring. Cook for 15 minutes and continue stirring constantly. DO NOT LET BOIL! If it begins to boil, simply turn the heat on low for the remainder of the cooking time. Once your 15 minutes are up, set aside and let cool for 5-10 minutes. Then, strain the syrup 2x through a mesh strainer to ensure it’s syrupy consistency. Pour into sterilized jars and refrigerate! Pumpkin Spice Syrup can be stored for up to one month.

- 1 part steamed milk
- 1 part espresso or very strong coffee. (I like it strong!)
- 3-4 tsp Pumpkin Spiced Syrup
- Whipping Cream
Combine steamed milk,espresso, Pumpkin Spiced Syrup in a coffee mug and top with whipping cream Garnish with cinnamon and serve immediately! Enjoy!
